Vietnam Lowers Morning Peak-Hour Rates by 20 Percent - Vietnam Briefing News

Aug. 26 – Companies that are open only during the day will now be charged 20 percent less than the current power rates for morning peak hours starting September 1.

Companies are charged double for electricity used during the peak hours of 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Many businesses have protested the price hike saying that the peak hours in the morning are considered a key production period.

The new regulation only applies to companies operating in the daytime and using power at medium voltage levels of 35 kilovolts or less. The discount does not cover companies with night shifts.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, a survey found that companies operating only during the daytime were the most affected by the peak hour pricing policy by paying an average of 17 percent more for power.
